Reminders & installing the app
Install Askesis on your phone or desktop and get one nudge a day, at the hour you choose.
Install the app
Askesis is a progressive web app: install it and it opens in its own window, like a native app.
| Device | How |
|---|---|
| Chrome or Edge on desktop | Click the install icon in the address bar, or Settings → Reminders → Install app. |
| Android (Chrome) | Menu → Install app (or Add to Home screen). |
| iPhone and iPad (Safari) | Share → Add to Home Screen, then open Askesis from the home screen. |
Daily reminders
Turn reminders on in Settings → Reminders. Askesis then sends one push notification a day:
- At 6 AM by default. You can pick another hour, from 6 AM to 11 PM, or When my day resets: when your study day rolls over and new cards unlock (4 AM unless you changed it).
- In your time zone.
- With what’s due, an estimated time, and your streak.
- Only on days when something is due.
Reminders are set per device: turn them on on each phone or browser you want nudged, and use Send a test to check one arrives. Tapping the notification opens your dashboard.
Troubleshooting
- “Notifications are blocked”: allow notifications for the site in your browser settings, then reload.
- iPhone: push only works in the installed app (iOS 16.4 or later), not in a Safari tab.
- “Reminders aren’t configured on this server”: the server needs VAPID keys. See Self-hosting.
