Levels, XP and ranks

How you earn XP in Askesis, how much each level takes, the ten ranks from Spark to Engram, and how your streak boosts XP.

What are levels?

Your level measures how much studying you’ve put in. Every answer earns XP (experience points), and XP adds up into levels and ranks that never go down. It rewards showing up, not getting cards right: grading honestly is what makes spaced repetition work.

How to earn XP

ForXP
An answer of Hard, Good or Easy8
An answer of Again4
Seeing a new card for the first time+4
Reaching your daily goal+50
Claiming a daily quest+25 to +40
Claiming all of the day’s quests+50
Opening the daily chest+20 to +160

Answer XP is multiplied by your streak: +1% per day in a row, up to ×1.5 at 50 days. Hard, Good and Easy pay the same, so there’s never a reason to grade generously.

XP needed per level

Reaching level n takes 250 × (n − 1)² XP in total, so each level takes a little longer than the last:

LevelTotal XPRoughly
2250Your first session
54,000A couple of weeks of daily study
1020,250A few months
2090,250About a year of steady reviews
50600,250Several years
801,560,250The long haul

A level-up gets a short celebration. Trophies are a separate track for milestones; see trophies.

Questions

How do levels work in Askesis?
Every answer earns XP, and XP adds up into levels. Reaching level n takes 250 × (n − 1)² XP in total, and levels never go down.
How do I earn XP?
8 XP for Hard, Good or Easy, 4 XP for Again, 4 extra the first time you see a card, plus bonuses for your daily goal, daily quests and the daily chest. Your streak multiplies answer XP by up to 1.5.
Does pressing Easy give more XP?
No. Hard, Good and Easy pay the same, so grading honestly never costs you XP.
What are the ranks?
Spark, Neuron, Dendrite, Synapse, Circuit, Cortex, Hippocampus, Savant, Polymath and Engram, reached at levels 1, 5, 10, 15, 20, 30, 40, 50, 65 and 80.
Can I lose levels?
No. XP only goes up; missing days can end your streak but never removes XP.
