Frequently asked questions

What is the JLPT N3?

The middle level of the Japanese-Language Proficiency Test, bridging basic and advanced Japanese. Learners typically know around 650 kanji.

Is there an official N3 kanji list?

No. Since 2010 the JLPT has not published official kanji lists, so this deck follows widely used study lists based on the earlier test levels.

Why learn kanji through example words?

Most N3 kanji are read with their on’yomi inside compounds, so a common word shows how the character is really used.

How many cards a day should I add?

Five to ten new kanji a day is sustainable for most learners; spaced repetition schedules the reviews for you.
