Frequently asked questions

What is the JLPT N2?

The second-highest level of the Japanese-Language Proficiency Test, often required by Japanese employers. Learners usually know around 1,000 kanji.

Is there an official N2 kanji list?

No. The JLPT stopped publishing kanji lists in 2010, so this deck follows widely used study lists derived from the former test levels.

Why do so many N2 kanji only have on’yomi?

Many advanced kanji are used mainly inside Sino-Japanese compounds, so the on’yomi is the reading you actually need.
